One World One Heart 2011

Welcome to

One World One Heart 2011 !

OWOH2011

This wonderful event had been created and hosted by Lisa Swifka since 2007 to give bloggers the chance to meet and to get to know each other.

If you are visiting me for the first time:

Hi, my name is Julia. It’s very nice meeting you! I’m German and I live with the most wonderful and supportive hubby of over 20 years and our sweet cat, in a small town on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Since I was a teenager I’ve always had hobbies that involved fabrics or yarns, like knitting, crocheting, making teddy bears, quilting and crazy quilting.

About three years ago I came across an issue of Somerset Studio and that way I discovered mixed media arts for me. Fabrics, laces and other textiles are still my favorite materials to work with but I now also love to include papers, metal pieces, wood and all kinds of interesting finds in my creations.

As a door prize for this event, I have created a fabric collage. The photo of the six girls is from my personal collection and was transferred using  the gel medium technique.

♥ Sweet Hearts ♥

With the beginning of the new year I had several fragmentary ideas in mind what I would like to do in my studio. I had never worked with the back of a canvas before and so I wanted to try that. Then, with Valentine’s Day around the corner I thought of sewing some hearts and another plan was to use bees wax again in some creations. However, every time I entered my creative space, I played around a bit with some supplies but I wasn’t inspired and ended up sorting my stash or ironing laundry. That didn’t make me too happy, LOL.

On Monday, all of a sudden, my scrappy ideas fell into place and I created a Valentine's collage on the back of a canvas, using a fabric heart and adding some bees wax.

Here you can see that I had melted bees wax on the background and as well on an old handwritten letter that I had cut into strips and adhered to the inner border of the canvas. I love to use wax on double sided book pages or letters because it makes the reverse side shining through.

Coeur is the French word for heart. I had cut it out of a French dictionary.

After I had finished the collage, I was in the mood for some more Valentine themed things and so I created these embellishments

and a bookmark.

“You complete me”

Don’t you just love that quote from the movie “Jerry Maguire”?

I used the large heart, some lace and a button to prettify a simple linen shopping tote.

Are you working on or have you finished any Valentine’s projects? I would love to hear about them.

Have a wonderful week, dear friends!
